I Saw Her That Night

I read the Slovenian edition of this wonderful novel written by Slovenian novelist Drago Jančar.

Based on a true story, I Saw Her That Night is a beautiful story of Veronika Zarnik told by five different people who knew her. Veronica was a bit eccentric and way before her time. She and her husband were a young, wealthy couple that lived in a castle. They left their home one night just before WWII ended and never came back.

I can’t believe this was my first Jančar novel. It certainly won’t be my last.
