Pygmalion and the Ivory Virgin
Pygmalion
is a sculptor from Cyprus, known from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, who fell in
love with his statue. This graphic novel is a retelling of this story.
There are a few changes from the original, and I have mixed feelings
about the story of Agape. But overall, I think it worked well.
Art
is excellent, and it suits this classical myth. Colored illustrations
are in classical style. I love that the characters really look like they
are from somewhere in the Mediterranean.
Pygmalion and the Ivory Virgin is suitable for adult readers who like classical mythology retellings.
