I Escaped a Chinese Internment Camp
I
Escaped a Chinese Internment Camp is a true story of Zumrat Dawut, a
woman from Xinjiang, an autonomous region in China, a wife, and a mother
of three children. One day she is taken to a facility for Uyghur women
without knowing what she did wrong.
This nonfiction graphic novel
is a quick read. The illustrations are very good, and the style is a
bit different. Panels contain only graphics. Text is usually outside and
not in bubbles. This graphic novel won a Pulitzer Prize in 2022 for
Illustrated Reporting and Commentary.
